Great Britain 1840 (6th May) Queen Victoria ‘Mulready’ 1d. pre-paid lettersheet.  Forme4, Stereo A176.  Posted from London to Wolverhampton on 6th May 1840 being the first day of issue and the most important and historic date in philately.  Bearing a clear ‘MY 6 1840’ circular datestamp and a very fine strike of the Maltese Cross in red. David Brandon Certificate No. 36,075 (2006).  This item is featured in the famous publication ‘May Dates’ by M. Jackson (Pages 246, 247).  Provenance : Sir Leonard Atkinson.  OF GREAT HISTORIC AND PHILATELIC IMPORTANCE BEING USED ON THE FIRST DAY OF ISSUE.  AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND IMPORTANT EXHIBITION SHOWPIECE.
